About Gary Jobe Ferguson, PhD

I have been helping people in their physical healing and the actualization of their creative potential since healing from cancer in 1993.

At the time of my diagnosis, I was a principal orchestral trumpet player. It was the challenges I faced in the early part of my cancer journey—metastasis and a failure to respond to conventional treatment—that drove me to seek a variety of healing paths to reclaim my health and wellness.

By tapping into the wisdom of my body and allowing the illness to guide me back into the river of life, it became clear I needed to let go of being a musician and honor the creative expressions that were yearning to be a part of my life.

Even though it was incredibly challenging to let go of being the trumpet player, doing so, in conjunction with embodying being the healer, guide, and teacher, fundamentally shifted my body’s receptivity to treatment. As I created a new relationship with life and embraced adjunctive cancer treatments to support my body in its healing process, I not only started to respond to conventional treatment but was cancer-free in 12 weeks.

Founded on insights gleaned from my cancer journey and studies in psychology, kinesiology, mind-body medicine, alchemy, and wellness coaching, I created a model of healing that is a blend of ancient wisdom and 21st-century science.

My healing model focuses on people reclaiming their creative authenticity and sharing their unique gifts as the foundation of their healing process. With this model, I have been blessed to help thousands of clients overcome the physical and emotional blockages holding them back from healing and creating the lives they truly desire.

I am certified in a variety of healing modalities. I am a somatic psychologist, a professional certified coach (PCC), and a specialist in mind-body medicine and applied kinesiology.

My work is focused in three distinct arenas:
1. Working with cancer patients and people with life-challenging illnesses,
2. Working with clients seeking personal transformation and self-growth, and
3. Working with musicians and performing artists who want to unlock their creative potential and ability to perform their best under pressure.

The work I do is influenced by depth, somatic, and archetypal psychology, Anthroposophy & Anthroposophical medicine, alchemy, mind-body medicine, shamanism, applied kinesiology, yoga, mythology & personal mythology, Eugene Gendlin’s Focusing technique, performance coaching, and insights gleaned while engaged in deep inner work.

I have a master’s degree and a PhD in Depth Psychology with an emphasis in Somatic Studies. I am currently developing a series of online programs and am writing a book on Elemental Adaptation™, the model of psychological development I discovered in my over 30 years of clinical experience and research.

I am embracing an exciting new chapter as a musician by learning to play the dilruba and esraj and studying classical Indian music and kirtan.

My wife and I live in Kirkland, Washington. We enjoy outdoor activities, the arts, exploring healthy vegetarian eateries in the Pacific Northwest, traveling, and sharing deep spiritual practices together.
